Install nano editor on freebsd

Posted: December 3, 2009 in Freebsd

install nano editor is more easy than others editor ..

i cannot use vi ;p

i never know why but since i use slackware i always use pico or nano for my editor.

install nano on freebsd

pkg_add -r nano

or you can use with port

# sysinstall

choose —-> Distributions

choose —->ports

than after update port

cd /usr/local/ports/editors/nano/ && make install clean

i always use pico than i use this trick.

ln -s /usr/local/bin/nano /usr/local/bin/pico

##################################################################################

Add nano as an default editor

login to root or you account

[root@bsd ~]# pico .cshrc

change

setenv  EDITOR  ee

to this :

setenv  EDITOR  nano

I set the ‘EDITOR’ environment variable to make ‘crontab -e’ and ‘chpass’ use the nano editor instead of ‘vi’:

  1. Helper says:

    pkg_add -r nano

    installs it in /usr/local/bin folder and although it is in the set path environment, it is not accessible until we execute:

    ln -s /usr/local/bin/nano /usr/bin/nano
